This year the most awaited auspicious festival of Maha Shivratri, the Great Night of Shiva will be celebrated under the “Dark Clouds of Mahamari” or the Coronavirus Pandemic. Most devotees of Lord Shiva will not be able to go to a Shivalaya and take Darshan of Shivji and the Shivling.
This Shubh Tithi on which Creation first emerged from the Shivling and also the date on which the “Milan” of Shiv-Shakti or Shiva and Parvati took place is earmarked by most Shiv Bhakts and Sadhaks to practice Mantra Sadhanas and Prayogas and try to generate supernatural energy and gain magical powers.
I am regularly asked by many Sadhaks and Spiritualists on which is the best Mantra that can be chanted of the occasion of Mahashivratri and which Mantra of Shiva will be most effective and beneficial on this date.
In my other site, I have written about the importance of the Great Panchakshari Mantra of Lord Shiva - ॐ नमः शिवाय || Om Namah Shivaya ||. This is Mantra that most people take for granted without realizing its importance or the real significance or power that can be generated by chanting this Maha Mantra.
The meaning of each letter contained in the Panchakshari Shiva Mantra:
ॐ – Om – ब्रम्हांड की ध्वनि – Universal Sound
न – Na – पृथ्वी तत्व – Earth Element
म – Ma – जल या पानी तत्व – Water Element
शि – Shi – अग्नी तत्व – Fire Element
वा – Va – वायु तत्व – Air Element
य – Ya – आकाश तत्व – Sky or Ether Element
The Power of Om Namah Shivaya:
1] Om Namah Shivaya contains the Sar or Essence of the Universe or Creation.
2] It vibrates with the Panch Maha Bhootas – Earth or Prithvi, Jal or Water, Fire or Agni, Vayu or Air, and Akash or Sky. These are the 5 Elements that are the building blocks of nature and everything contained in Creation is comprised of these 5 Elements,
3] Hence chanting Om Namah Shivaya makes the body and mind of the chanter vibrate in tune with the Panch Maha Bhutas and generate tremendous energy that elevates his or her level of existence. This will definitely enable the chanter to gain Divine Powers or Siddhi, including Extra Sensory Powers, like Clairvoyance, Telepathy, Precognition, Astral Projection, Levitation or Transvection, and other Psychic Powers.
4] The Sadhak should not keep chanting the Mantra mechanically but believe that he is harmonizing his mind, body, and existence and tuning them along with the Universal Vibration while chanting the Shiva Mantra. This is the only way in which the Mantra will generate power.
Hence, in conclusion, in my opinion, Om Namah Shivaya is the best and most powerful Mantra of Lord Shiva to chant on the most auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri.
The Muhurat of Maha Shivratri in most parts of India is between 2.39 PM on 11 March 2021 and 3.02 PM on 12 March 2021.
